Iquitos, Perú is the largest city in the world that you can only get to by boat or plane. This means everything imported into the city needs to come by boat or plane as well 😂

It seems silly to clarify this, but that means even all the fruits and vegetables that come from the farms on the river have to be brought into the city by boat. Selling their produce is a great income for those who live on the river.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s the rubber trade boomed here in Iquitos. There used to be a train that went through the city they used during this time but now there’s only a monument to it downtown.

There are Amazonian Manatees! Didn’t know there are river manatees? I hadn’t either til I moved to here. You can click here to read about it them if you are interested!

Iquitos is also one of the best places to come and see the pink dolphins! If you’re interested in learning more about the pink dolphins here is a really great article about them! Click here.

Most of our updates and posts are about the ministry, and we thought it would be fun to share a few things you might not have known about the area we live in!

Have a happy day 💚
